PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an abnormality detector for detecting abnormality of an inspection object such as machinery, based on a sound or vibration generated in the inspection object. SOLUTION: The sound generated in the inspection object in a normal time, and the other sound generated from the periphery of the inspection object in an abnormal time are taken in preliminarily as acoustic signals, so as to constitute the first and second reverse filters 4e, 4f respectively based thereon. The first and second reverse filters 4e, 4f are applied, under this condition, to the acoustic signal obtained from the sound generated in the inspection object during usual work, to remove influences of the sound generated from the inspection object in the normal time and the predicted other sound. An output signal from the second reverse filter 4f is limited thereby to that due to the abnormal sound from the inspection object, so as to detect surely the presence of the abnormality of the inspection object.
