The hollow carrying element (1) as well as the crash box (2) are each assembled of two identical shells (3, 4, 5, 6). The shells (5, 6) forming the crash box (2) are joined by spot welding (7) at the front but not connected in the area accommodated inside the carrying element (1). Screws (9) are guided through the lateral walls (10) of the carrying element (1) and the crash box (2, 11). A tolerance (12) is left between the two parts (1, 2) facilitating a self centering during the joining process.
