A brake device 10 for a stroller comprises a brake drum 20 fixed to a stroller wheel(not shown), a brake lining 30 fixed to an outer periphery of the brake drum, and a brake shoe 40 which can be operated to contact said brake drum, wherein the brake shoe is made of a different material to that of the brake drum. The brake shoe is preferably a metal strap 40, while the brake lining is preferably a rubber band having grooves on the inner surface which engage teeth which may be provided on the outer periphery of the drum. A cable 52 may have one end connected to an end of the metal band 40, with the other end of the cable preferably being connected to a hand brake actuator(not shown). A spring 56 may bias the band to the released position.
