An energy-saving method for harvesting cereals and other crops includes mowing plants and separating the grain, straw, chaff and other remains. A gas-generating system working from burning in the gas-generator furnace of straw and/or chaff and other remains which are delivered into the furnace by a flameproof way is used while a combine is working.
