A weapons system (20) including a guided missile (22) and a guidance mechanism, separate from the guided missile. The guided missile includes a seeker (12) for producing signals indicative of a position of a target, and a steering mechanism (18) for steering the guided missile. The guidance mechanism controls the steering mechanism (18) based on the signals, so as to steer the guided missile (22) towards the target.
