A method for the preparation of flux for melting and refining magnesium and its alloys includes alloying hard or mixing molten carnallite and weighting agent, addition of the worked electrolyte of magnesium of electrolyzer while alloying or mixing, cooling the salt base of flux, grinding and introduction of fluorides of alkaline and/or alkaline-earth metals in the course of grinding or thereafter.
