The present invention relates to a physical-chemical recycling process of waste polyethyleneterephthalate wherein the process is characterized in that a waste polyethyleneterephthalate charge is put into an acid solution and this reaction mixture is then subject to the action of microwave radiation to yield a terephthalic acid suspension. The terephthalic acid is then separated from the solution and optionally washed with a washing acid to render neutral pH value. Prior placing into the acid solution, the charge of the waste polyethyleneterephthalate can be crushed and optionally also subjected to washing.
