The invention comprises water-insoluble monoazo dyes of the formula <FORM:1055489/C4-C5/1> wherein R is an alkyl or aromatic radical and A is a radical of a 1-aryl-3-alkyl-5-pyrazolone or of a 3-hydroxydiaryl-amine, both linked in 4-position, A and R being free of SO3H and COOH groups but may contain non-ionic substituents. Specified substituents being halogen atoms, -OH, -NO2, -CN, acylamino, alkyl alkoxy, trifluoroalkyl, -SO2F, carboxylic acid ester, sulphone and sulphonamide groups. They may be obtained by coupling a diazotized 5 - amino - 3 - aryl or - alkyl - 1,2,4 - thiadiazole with a 1-aryl-3-alkyl-5-pyrazolone or a 3-hydroxy-diarylamine in an acidic, neutral, or weakly alkaline aqueous, organic or aqueous organic medium. The dyes are useful for dyeing or printing synthetic fibres and other hydrophobic textile materials (see Division D1). Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,001,496.
