In the present invention, there is disclosed a floor covering, consisting of hard floor panels (1) having a first pair and a second pair of opposite sides (2, 3; 26, 27). The floor panels (1) are provided, at least at the edges of the second pair of the opposite sides (26, 27), with coupling parts (4, 5; 28, 29), cooperating with each other, substantially in the form of a tongue (9, 31) and a groove (10, 32). These coupling parts (4, 5; 28, 29) are provided with integrated mechanical locking means (6) including corresponding locking elements (11, 13; 33, 34; 46, 47) extending in longitudinal direction toward the corresponding edges. Said locking means (6) are integral with a core (8) of the floor panels (1). In coupled state of two floor panels (1), these coupling parts (4, 5; 28, 29) prevent, along with the locking means (6) the drifting apart of the two coupled floor panels (1) in the direction perpendicular to the floor panel (1) plane as well as in the direction perpendicular to the coupled edges and parallel to the coupled floor panel (1) plane. Basic material of the floor panels (1) or the core (8) material is substantially a high-density fiberboard (HDF) or a medium density fiberboard (MDF). The coupling parts (4, 5; 28, 29) and the locking means (6), performed on the core (8) outer side have such a configuration that two of the floor panels (1) can be coupled by their side shift relative to each another in substantially one plane for locking a snap-on joint in which the locking means (6) are clamped one after another. Disclosed is also a process for preparing the above-describe floor panels (1) wherein the process is characterized in that the tongue (9, 31) and/or the groove (10, 32) are cut in a milling process with at least two subsequent milling cycles by means of cutters (63, 64, 65, 66, 67, 68, 69, 70) being located at different angles relative to the corresponding floor panel (1). |
