The present invention describes a method (400), computer program product (20 0) and system (100) for executing a function of a data processing computer syst em (100). The function relates to an object (125). The method is performed by t he steps of displaying a graphical representation of an object on a display device (120), receiving movement data (131) from an input device (130), identifying a matching movement pattern (221) that matches the cursor moveme nt (121), which corresponds to the movement data, selecting a function (241) th at relates to the matching movement pattern and the object and executing the function for the object. The identifying step can be performed by measuring the cursor movement as changes of the cursor coordinates (122 to 124) over time. The result is compared to a plurality (220) of predefined reference movement patterns. One movement pattern is selected out of the plurality of reference movement patterns as the matching movement pattern for said object .
