A method for microencapsulating a water-soluble or water-dispersible or wate r- sensitive material comprising dispersing the water-soluble or water-dispersible or water-sensitive material in an organic continuous phase and adding a polyfunctional isocyanate, a diol or polyol in the presence of an optional polymerization catalyst to t he organic continuous phase is described.
