The card has a processor for executing a command. A suspend/resume controller (511) halts execution of the command and stores current state information upon receipt of a suspend command related to another command. The information comprises assets related to the former command, where the assets comprise a program counter value. The controller comprises a suspend table storing the value. An independent claim is also included for an integrated circuit (IC) card system comprising a host device.
