A device for cooling an infant's brain includes a cooling liner that may be sandwiched between an outer padded cap and an inner elastic liner. The devic e fits closely over the infant's skull and is cooled by a recirculating coolin g fluid passing through a serpentine conduit. One application for the device is to cool a newborn infant's brain that has suffered a hypoxic shock.
