PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an extraordinary magnetoresistive sensor having optimal magnetic sensitivity, capable of reading very narrow and short magnetic bits. SOLUTION: A sensor 300 comprises a semiconductor layer 304 and a layer composed of a highly conductive material layer 302. A first current lead 314 and a second current lead 316 are electrically connected to an edge 308 of the semiconductor material. The second current lead 316 is located at a distance inward from an end 310 of the sensor.
