PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric machine belonging to a field for generating as large torque as possible, and particularly, to provide an inner rotor type electric motor or an inner rotor type generator. SOLUTION: The electric machine includes a rotor and a stator which surrounds the rotor concentrically, and the stator has a stator coercive ring, a stator pole projecting from the stator coercive ring toward a radial inside, and a slit formed to accommodate a phase winding among those stator poles. The depth of the slit in the radial direction will not substantially exceed three times the size of the winding wire diameter of the phase winding. Thus, the phase winding, wound in the slit, can be superimposed on the radial at a maximum of three-fold, by not exceeding three times the size of the winding wire diameter of the phase winding.
