PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video recording apparatus the number of encoders installed in which is decreased so as to simplify the configuration and to provide a television receiver incorporating the recording apparatus. SOLUTION: The video recording and reproducing apparatus comprises; two tuners 11, 12; a hard disk 32; a video audio composite section 30 respectively compressing a video signal and an audio signal from the two tuners and composing them; a video audio compression encoder 31 for respectively encoding the video signal and the audio signal composed by the video audio composite section 30 and storing the result to the hard disk 32; a video audio decoder 32 for reading and decoding the video signal and the audio signal stored in the hard disk 32; and a video audio separation section 34 for separating the video signal and the audio signal corresponding to a selected channel among the video signal and the audio signal obtained from the video audio decoder 32 and outputting the separated video signal and audio signal.
