PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleansing composition having good cosmetic properties and rapidly rinsed off. SOLUTION: The cleansing composition for topical application comprises a surfactant system containing at least one kind of surfactant selected from alkyl glycol carboxylic acids and salts thereof and at least one kind of surfactant selected from monoalkyl phosphates, dialkyl phosphates and salts thereof in a physiologically acceptable aqueous medium. Furthermore, the use of the composition, in particular in the cosmetics or dermatological fields as products for cleansing or for removing makeup from the skin and/or the scalp is provided. The anionic surfactant may in particular be sodium lauryl glycol carboxylate [Beaulight Shaa (R)] or its acid form.
