PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator governor capable of suppressing diameter of a governor sheave to small diameter to save a space by constituting a governor rope having required rope strength while reducing rope diameter. SOLUTION: In this elevator governor provided with the governor sheave and the governor rope wound around the governor sheave and installed in a shaft of an elevator, the governor rope 20 is a wire rope formed by twining a plurality of wires 22a, and a steel wire having cross sectional area of 0.014 to 0.26 mm<SP>2</SP>and strength of 2,000 N/mm<SP>2</SP>or more is used as the wire 22a.
