PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a weld visualizing method and a weld visualizing device capable of observing a butted weld of members to be welded with difference in thickness without affected by a shadow. SOLUTION: A CCD (charge coupled device) camera 13 to pick up an image of a weld 12 is provided in a vertical plane immediately above a groove part 11 at which members 10a, 10b to be welded with difference in thickness are butted to each other in an inclined manner by the predetermined angle from a normal 14 for observation. A flash lamp 15 is provided in the vertical plane immediately above the groove part 11 in an angular arrangement deviated by±10°-20°from the angular arrangement symmetric to the CCD camera 13 with the normal 14 for observation as the axis of symmetry. The illumination light is irradiated from the flash lamp 15 arranged immediately above the groove part 11 to eliminate the possibility of generating shadow on the butt weld 12 of the members 10a, 10b. An image of the weld 12 at the brightness suitable for image processing is obtained by preventing regularly reflected component of highly bright illumination light irradiated on the weld 12 from the flash lamp 15 from not being strongly incident on the CCD camera 13.
