<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin composition that has excellent photosensitivity to active energy ray, can form the patterns by developing with dilute alkali aqueous solution and is suitable as a solder mask ink of which the hardened membrane is highly insulative, has satisfactory flexibility, adhesiveness, gold plate resistance, electroless gold plating resistance and tin plating resistance. <P>SOLUTION: A diol compound (a) bearing an ethylenic unsaturated group in the molecule or the diol compound (a) and other diol compounds (d) are allowed to react with a polybasic acid anhydride (b) to form an ester compound (x), an epoxy compound (c) bearing two epoxy groups in the molecule is allowed to react with the carboxy groups in the ester compound (x).
