<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pedestrian protection device capable of smoothly deploying and inflating an airbag by suppressing interference with a wiper. <P>SOLUTION: This pedestrian protection device PM1 is operated so that a pedestrian in contact with a vehicle may be protected. The device PM1 is provided with the wiper 13 capable of wiping the surface of front glass 5 and an airbag device S1. The airbag device S1 is provided with the airbag 58 folded and stored at a storing portion and an inflator 53 operated to supply gas for inflation to the airbag 58. The inflation of the airbag 58 is completed so that the pedestrian may be protected since the airbag 58 projects from the storing portion 47 at the time of inflow of the gas for inflation, and the airbag 58 is constituted to cover a part of the surface of at least the front glass 5. A moving means MT1 for moving the wiper 13 to an area for reducing interference with the projecting airbag 58 is arranged before deploying and inflating the airbag 58. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
