<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which suppresses iridescent light in a reflective or translucent type liquid crystal display device which reflects incident light from the outside toward an observer, and a design method thereof. <P>SOLUTION: On the surface of a reflective film 20, a plurality of element figure groups 26 which have the same pattern and are periodically arrayed are formed and each element figure group 36 includes a projection element figure pattern 31 constituted of N elements; and respective vertexes of the element figure pattern 31 are arranged at positions moved at random from vertex positions of a standard element figure pattern with maximum vertex mobility of ≥0.4, and an angle of discreteness of bright points is ≤0.01° by the random movement of the vertex positions of the element figure pattern 31 when the angle α of discreteness of bright points caused by diffraction of reflected light reflected by the reflective film 20 is defined by α=(λ<SB>A</SB>/L<SB>S</SB>*N)×(180/π), where λ<SB>A</SB>represents the mean wavelength of incident light and L<SB>S</SB>represents the standard pitch of an array of element figure patterns 31. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
