PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recover and reuse dry fuel without enlarging a fuel cell stack with a simple structure, and to eliminate the discharge of hydrogen at normal operation of a vehicle. SOLUTION: This fuel cell system is provided with the fuel cell stack wherein fuel cells wherein an electrolyte layer is pinched with a fuel electrode and an oxygen electrode are laminated on both sides of a separator provided with a fuel gas flow passage along the fuel electrode, a fuel supply pipeline connected with an inlet of the fuel gas flow passage, a fuel exhausting pipeline whose one end is connected with an outlet of the fuel gas flow passage and the other end is connected with the fuel supply pipeline, a forced fuel discharge device provided in the fuel exhausting pipeline and supplying the fuel gas discharged from the fuel gas flow passage to the fuel supply pipeline, and a recovery container provided in the fuel exhausting pipeline and capable of accepting an estimated amount of back-diffusion water based on the amount of the fuel gas supplied to the fuel cell stack.
