<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical delay circuit that is small in size, stable for environmental change, and easy to control, to provide an integrated optical element using this optical delay circuit, and also to provide a manufacturing method suitable for this integrated optical element. <P>SOLUTION: In the optical delay circuit 1, there are arranged, in plurality and in parallel, defect waveguides 3a, 3b which are formed with linear defects introduced to the periodic refractive index profile of photonic crystals. The defect waveguides 3a, 3b are equipped with multiplexing/demultiplexing parts 4a, 4b which are arranged with a close distance between the defect waveguides 3a, 3b and which performs multiplexing/demultiplexing of light, and equipped with an optical delaying part which is arranged with a distance apart between the defect waveguides so that light beams branched from the multiplexing/demultiplexing parts 4a, 4b and transmitted through the defect waveguides 3a, 3b have no interference with each other; thus, the structure between the plurality of defect waveguides 3a, 3b is made differently. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
