PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a matrix optical switch equipped with a sufficient extinction ratio independent of a fabrication error by suitably combining circuits together in the case in which circuit characteristics vary due to an error produced in the fabrication of the matrix optical switch. SOLUTION: The matrix optical switch comprises an input optical waveguide 11a-11b and an output optical waveguide 12a-12b intersecting with each other, and further a bypass optical waveguide 13a-13b which connects the input and output optical waveguides 11a-11b, 12a-12b to each other, and includes a 1×2 optical switch 18a between the bypass optical waveguide 13a-13b and the input optical waveguide 11a-11b, a 2×1 optical switch 18b between the bypass optical waveguide 13a-13b and the output optical waveguide 12a-12b, and a 1×1 optical gate switch 18c between the 1×2 optical switch 18a and the 2×1 optical switch 18b.
