PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the same environment to a user, even in either a case of using an image communication apparatus via a network or a case of using the apparatus by direct operation. SOLUTION: The image communication apparatus requests an account and a password to the user even in either the case of using the image communication apparatus via the network or the case of using the apparatus by direct operation to authenticate the user. The accounts registered as a target of user authentication are each correlated to unique environment setting. The image communication apparatus acquires environment setting corresponding to the account inputted in the user authentication, and operates in conformity with the environment setting. In this way, in either the case of using the image communication apparatus via the network or the case of using the apparatus by direct operation, the same environment is provided to the user.
