PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain a zoom lens that has a structure suitable for widening the field angle and realizes high optical performance, over the entire zoom range. SOLUTION: Regarding the zoom lens including, in the order starting from an object side to an image side, a 1st lens group L1 having negative refractive power, a 2nd lens group L2 having positive refractive power, a 3rd lens group L3 having negative refractive power, and a 4th lens group L4 having positive refractive power, a back focus and the refractive power of each lens group are set appropriately.
