<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charge calculation method and a charge calculation program of toner or ink in image formation which can provide appropriate prices commensurate with the printing record to customers. <P>SOLUTION: When a toner cartridge is attached to a digital copy machine, a CPU 31 reads price information Ip recorded in a ROM chip 24 attached to the toner cartridge, and records it to RAM 33. Then, when an image is to be written, the CPU 31 counts the dot number for each dot type, calculates the dot area from the dot number of each dot type and the dot area per dot which is recorded in the ROM 32 in advance, and calculates the toner consumption amount by multiplying the dot area by the toner consumption amount per dot unit area which is recorded in the ROM 32 in advance.
