PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device equipped with an alignment layer which surely controls alignment of liquid crystal molecules with a new configuration and which is further highly reliable. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device comprises a liquid crystal layer 50 interposed between a pair of substrates 10, 20, is equipped with an oxide layer 9 disposed on the liquid crystal layer 50 side of the substrate 10, and an alignment layer 11 disposed on the liquid crystal layer 50 side of the oxide layer 9, and is characterized in that the alignment layer 11 is chemically bonded to the oxide layer 9.
