PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially advantageous production method for a fluoride ion-containing alkyl-substituted imidazolium salt. SOLUTION: In this production method for the fluoride ion-containing alkyl-substituted imidazolium salt of formula (1) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>are identical to or different from each other and are each an optionally substituted alkyl group; R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>4</SP>and R<SP>5</SP>are identical to or different from each other and are each hydrogen atom or an optionally substituted alkyl group; X<SP>-</SP>is chloride ion or bromide ion; and 0≤z<1), an alkyl-substituted imidazolium salt of formula (2) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>4</SP>, R<SP>5</SP>and X<SP>-</SP>are as indicated above; and 0<y≤1, provided (y) is larger than (z) in formula (1)) is reacted with potassium fluoride in methanol.
