The deicer has a housing (3) driven along a power cable (2) using a powered impeller (5). A defrosting device (21) is attached in the housing for defrosting an ice layer (20) on the power cable using mechanical effect such as by oppressive rolls pressing against each other. The defrosting of the cable takes place via a gas burner using a laser or microwave technique. The defrosting device is mounted in front or behind the impeller.
