<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extend the service life of the merchandise of a polarizing plate and a liquid crystal projector by preventing further deterioration in a polarizing film caused by the adverse effect of the light beams other than the light beams in the visible region from a light source. <P>SOLUTION: The polarizing plate is arranged in the vicinity of a liquid crystal display element and a polarizing film 42 is pasted on the light emitting side main surface of a transparent substrate 41. A color correcting filter 43 is formed on the light incident side main surface of the polarizing plate to reflect optical components other than the light beams in the visible region.
