PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a broadcast receiver capable of receiving a plurality of kinds of broadcasts by using a smart antenna, and automatically scanning the received broadcast at a high speed. SOLUTION: A control unit 10 sequentially selects channels of digital television broadcasts, and sequentially selects the reception direction of the smart antenna 30 for each of the channels. The control unit 10 determines the propriety of reception on the basis of an error rate in reception data operated by a digital decoder 18, and stores receivable channels and reception direction numbers. The control unit 10 sequentially selects channels of analog television broadcasts, sequentially selects the reception directions from among reception direction numbers stored for each of the channels to search a receivable channel.
