PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an efficient production method for a 4-allyloxy phenol derivative useful as an intermediate of a chromogenic substance or of an insecticidal or acaricidal compound. SOLUTION: In the production method for the phenol compound of formula (2) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>are each independently hydrogen atom or a halogen atom), hydroquinone is reacted with an allyl halide compound of formula (1) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>are as indicated above; and R<SP>4</SP>is a halogen atom) in a mixture of water, a hydrophobic organic solvent and an alcohol in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide.
