PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a layered clay mineral to improve the physical property of a rubber by the reactivity with the rubber and a rubber composition containing it. SOLUTION: The reactive layered clay mineral containing a compound having a maleimide residue between layers and the rubber composition containing it are provided. The compound having the maleimide residue for the layered clay mineral is favorably denoted as formula (I) (wherein, R1 is an alkylene group of 2-8C; R2 is H or a hydrocarbon group of 1-30C; R3 is a hydrocarbon group of 1-30C).
