PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reliably prevent degrading of durability due to keeping of revolution of a motor in the case of driving the motor in the state of detaching a toilet seat and a toilet cover. SOLUTION: Inside of an automatic opening and closing device provided with the motor for open/close-driving the toilet cover 2 and/or the toilet seat 3, a rotary movement detection means for detecting the rotary movement of the toilet cover 2 and/or the toilet seat 3 is provided. When it is judged that the rotating position of the motor is outside of a normal using range based on the detected result by the rotary movement detection means, the motor is controlled to reverse to return to a primary position within the normal using range.
