A deodorizer for cleaning air by removing odor gas components and hazardous volatile chemical substances in the air. In order to clean the air by enhancing decomposition/removal efficiency of odor gases and hazardous volatile chemical substances even with low energy, the deodorizer is provided with a discharge electrode and a counter electrode arranged in a duct and being applied with a high voltage, and a catalyst section for purifying odor gases and hazardous volatile chemical substances. The discharge electrode is disposed on the windward side of the duct and comprises a plate electrode having protrusions. The counter electrode is disposed on the leeward side of the duct and has an opening part made of a metal or conductive material. The catalyst section is disposed between the discharge electrode and the counter electrode at a certain distance from the discharge electrode and in contact with the counter electrode. The catalyst section is mainly composed of manganese oxide and has an opening part of 10-1000 cells per square inch in the duct. The opening part is larger than the opening part of the counter electrode and the protrusions of the discharge electrode incline at an angle of 0-90° to the catalyst surface of the catalyst section.
