<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the reading error of data when overwriting is carried out in a rewritable type optical disk corresponding to a plurality of kinds of recording speeds. <P>SOLUTION: When recording power at a Y-fold speed is decided for a rewritable type optical disk corresponding to Z and Y-fold speed recording, basic recording is carried out at the Z-fold speed, and overwriting is executed in the basic recording area at the Y-fold speed to evaluate a reproducing signal at the Y-fold speed, thereby obtaining an optimal recording waveform at the Y-fold speed.
