PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for stable focusing on a target subject without any sense of incompatibility irrespectively of a difference in lens unit kind for a camera main body where a lens unit is freely mounted and demounted. SOLUTION: Once the kind of a lens unit which is connected is determined, cutoff frequencies are set to low-pass filters 214 and 215 and a high-pass filter 217 based upon the determination result. As for frequency component data in a prescribed area of an imaging element, peak holding circuits 219 to 221, and 225 to 227, integrating circuits 232 to 237, and difference peak holding circuits 247 to 249 generate evaluation value information respectively.
