PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical waveguide device capable of suppressing inter-optical pulse interference of formed pulse lines by controlling the spread of a reflection pulse width. SOLUTION: FBG encoders 110 as the optical waveguide device are each provided with a periodic refractive index modulation in the longitudinal direction of an optical fiber 111. The FBG encoders are also provided with a plurality of units FBG 115 arranged in the longitudinal direction of the optical fiber 111, and provided with a phase shift part 116 which is formed between any two adjacent units FBG 115 in the plurality thereof and which produces a prescribed quantity of phase contrast between the refractive index modulations of the two adjacent units FBG 115. Each of the units FBG 115 has a structure in which the period of the periodic refractive index modulation is gradually increased or decreased in the longitudinal direction of the optical fiber 111, or a constitution in which the amplitude of the periodic refractive index modulation is varied in the longitudinal direction of the optical fiber 111 so that the envelope of the periodic refractive index modulation is made a prescribed windowing function.
