Provided are a gesture recognition system for an electronic device capable of removing small noise in gesture signals, smoothening gesture signals, and improving the recognition rate of gesture signals and a method thereof. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the gesture recognition system for an electronic device includes: a signal extraction unit which extracts a gesture signal from the gesture of a user using a plurality of dislocation sensors; a noise removing unit which removes noise in the gesture signal using a Kalman filter; a feature extraction unit which reduces the dimensions of the gesture signal from which noise is removed using the principle component analysis (PCA) algorithm; and a gesture recognition unit which recognizes the gesture signal with the reduced dimensions using the dynamic time warping (DTW) algorithm and the K-nearest neighbors (KNN) classifier.
