A thin film for a surface emitting light source includes a dielectric layer and nanostructures periodically arranged in the dielectric layer, wherein light emitted from the thin film for the surface emitting light source has directivity due to the nanostructures. The surface emitting light source includes a first multilayer in which a plurality of the thin films are stacked, an active thin film layer disposed on the first multilayer, and a second multilayer disposed on the active thin film layer, wherein the smaller number of the thin films for the surface emitting light source are stacked in the second multilayer than that stacked in the first multilayer. The light created by the active thin film layer is reflected on the first multilayer and is emitted from the second multilayer while having directivity.
