<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new mutant enabling much polyphosphoric acid to be accumulated in bacterial cell, and to realize recycling phosphorus resource by utilizing the mutant bacteria. <P>SOLUTION: The mutation of pitA gene encoding a protein involved in the phosphoric acid transport of bacteria improves the ability to accumulate polyphosphoric acid. The mutant improved in the ability to accumulate polyphosphoric acid can efficiently remove phosphorus in water.
