PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate leakage of light in an external electrode, to suppress unevenness in contact condition between the outer case and the external electrode, and to prevent changes with the passage of time of this contact condition. SOLUTION: The discharge lamp is provided with a glass bulb 1 of cylindrical shape, a discharge medium sealed inside this glass bulb, and the external electrode 22A which is provided on the outer circumference at both end parts of the glass bulb 1 and causes discharge to the discharge medium. The external electrode 22A is made of a plate of conductive material and is brazed by a solder layer 5 provided throughout the outer circumference of the glass bulb 1. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
