PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate an operational burden of the hand sewing and to automatically form two or more stitches by the empty sewing between two arbitrary thread holes of a button. SOLUTION: A button sewing machine includes: a vertical driving means of a needle bar 9 to hold a sewing needle 5; a button holding means 34 to hold the button having the thread holes H1-H4; a holding member 57 to hold a pointed head section of a cloth to be sewn; a positioning means to execute the positioning of the sewing needle against the button B and the cloth W to be sewn; a setting means to set the number of times of repetitions of the scoop sewing; a scoop sewing control means to control the scoop sewing to be executed for the set number of times, another setting means which sets the number of times of the empty sewing to execute the laying over of the sewing thread without inserting the sewing needle in the cloth to be sewn; and an empty sewing control means which controls the empty sewing to be executed for the set number of times.
