PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medical diagnostic apparatus capable of increasing the degree of freedom of the mobility of the apparatus. SOLUTION: Four proximity sensors 28 are disposed on the side face of an image intensifier (I.I) 25 which is one of movable parts. An image pickup system control part controls the drive of the I.I 25 so as to stop the operation of the I.I 25 when the proximity sensor 28 detects an object represented by a subject M or the like near the I.I 25 and so as to allow the operation in an optional direction of the I.I 25 when input for performing the operation of the I.I 25 is performed after the stoppage. Thus, by making the operation in the optional direction of the I.I 25 possible when the operation (return operation) of the I.I 25 is input again after the stoppage, the degree of the freedom of the mobility of the apparatus in the return operation is increased.
