In a process to reduce the quantity of grease and edible oils discharged as kitchen waste in effluent water, the grease and oil are partly or completely oxidised. - Following skimming of grease and oil the oxidation is effected by an electrolytic process using diamond-coated electrodes. The process takes place in an electrolysis cell with a constant batch throughput of effluent water under vortex conditions. The water has admixed oxygen, ozone or hydrogen peroxide.
