<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the optical signal switching apparatus with small number of optical parts, the optical communication network which employs a combination of the apparatuses, has superior reliability, allows long distance transmission and is an economical configuration, and to provide a method for using them. <P>SOLUTION: The optical signal switching apparatus basically adopts a singular configuration and has a configuration, in which optical signals are divided into optical signals passing through the apparatus and optical signals for which an insertion/branch processing is performed in the apparatus, and only the insertion/branch processing is performed at a redundant part. The optical communication network has a configuration, in which a plurality of the optical signal switching apparatuses and optical transmission lines are arranged so that the each of optical signals, to which redundancy is given in an apparatus for inserting the optical signal, passes through different optical transmission lines and apparatuses, and in which the optical signal passing through each apparatus is processed at a singular part; and the reliability is ensured by transmitting the redundant optical signals in the optical communication network as a whole, by a route-setting of the optical signal switching apparatus and the optical transmission lines. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
