<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pedestrian protection device capable of preventing fall of a pedestrian from a hood panel by enhancing constraint force. <P>SOLUTION: This pedestrian protection device S1 is provided with a cover material 28 and a pretensioner 24. The cover material 28 is formed into a sheet shape having flexibility to be folded and stored over substantially all regions within a region from a front part 5a side of the hood panel 5 on left and right edges 5b and 5c sides of the hood panel 5 to a front pillar part FP. The cover material 28 is deployed so that the fall of the pedestrian may be prevented at the time of the completion of deployment and a substantially triangular region from the front part 5a side of the hood panel 5 on an upper side of the hood panel 5 from the viewpoint of a side surface of a vehicle V to an upper part side of the front pillar part FP may be covered. The pretensioner 24 delivers the stored cover material 28 up to a deploying completion position by generating tension on an upper edge 29 side of the cover material 28 after the completion of deployment. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
