PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase durability of an endless belt of a belt type continuously variable transmission. SOLUTION: This endless belt comprises a pair of endless belt members comprising a combination of a plurality of endless belt layers, and a number of plate-shaped pawl members comprising a neck part and a pair of shoulder parts extended on both sides, with dents formed at border parts between the neck part and the shoulder parts to be engaged with the endless belt members by the shoulder parts. It is to be wrapped around between pulleys in a continuously variable transmission. A measure is provided to improve durability of an inner surface layer in a side edge range of the innermost layer of the endless belt layers on the closer side to the neck part of the pawl member.
